In Australia annual auditing of accounts is not compulsory for all private companies under the Corporations Act. Some big private companies, superannuation funds, foreign-owned subsidiaries, large travel agents and solicitor’s trust accounts are required to be audited periodically under various legislations and/or Government regulations. In certain circumstances, shareholders can request to have the company accounts audited for special reasons.
